Randy Phillips is the founding and lead pastor of LifeFamily, a family of churches across Central Texas, and a founding member of Phillips, Craig & Dean. He hosts Backstage with Randy Phillips, writes for children and grown-ups, and still believes the best ministry often starts around a kitchen table.
A life in five chapters
Randy Phillips Collective isn't a résumé — it's the story so far, and it's still being written.
Where it started
Randy grew up watching ministry happen around the kitchen table. His parents, Kenneth and Wanda Phillips, were pastors, and that early example shaped how he has led ever since: a love for God, and a love for God's people.
In 1985, Randy stepped into full-time ministry as business administrator at his father's church, PromiseLand Central. He was ordained in 1989 and spent the next sixteen years serving as associate pastor there, learning the practical, unglamorous work of shepherding a congregation.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Concordia University in Austin and a master's from Dallas Theological Seminary. He often says the real education happened at home.
Phillips, Craig & Dean
In 1991, Randy teamed up with two friends — both pastors themselves — to form Phillips, Craig & Dean. What started as a handful of songs written for their own congregations grew into one of the most decorated groups in Christian music.
Phillips, Craig & Dean has received multiple GMA Dove Awards, including Worship Song of the Year for "Revelation Song," sold millions of recordings, and scored more than twenty No. 1 songs. Among them: "Revelation Song," "Crucified with Christ," "Mercy Came Running," "You Are God Alone," and "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again."
Even at the height of that success, all three men stayed local pastors first. Music was never meant to replace the pulpit. It was meant to carry the same message further.
Eighty people on the west side of Austin
In February 2005, Randy and his wife Denise gathered eighty people and planted a new church on the west side of Austin — first as PromiseLand West, later LifeAustin, now LifeFamily.
What began as a small, willing group grew into a family of churches across Central Texas, built on one conviction: transformation happens here.
Randy Phillips Collective is not the church website. It is the place where the conversations, songs, and stories that grew out of that calling can travel farther than a Sunday morning.
The ones who shaped him most
Randy has been married to Denise for 41 years. Together they raised two daughters, Garland and Lily Pearl. They are in-laws to Jake Griedl and grandparents to Griff and Vivian (Vivi).
Randy often says fatherhood and grandfatherhood have shaped his faith more than any pulpit ever could.
One roof, many rooms
Backstage with Randy Phillips brings honest conversation to YouTube and podcast platforms. Guppy and the Silvery Hook carries his gift for story to the next generation. Heaven's Rose marks a chapter of music written from where he stands now, not where he started.
Why "Collective"?
Randy Phillips Collective is the home for everything Randy creates and carries: the podcast, the music, the books, the teaching, and the people who helped shape all of it along the way. It is called a Collective because none of it happened alone. A wife who has stood beside him through every season. A father and mother who pastored before him. Two friends who became a trio and then a legacy. A church family that grew from eighty people into thousands. Guests, co-writers, and collaborators who keep adding their voice to his. Collective is simply the truest word for a body of work built by many hands and one calling.
